Chief Emeritus of Internal Medicine and Hepatology
Dr. Giorgio Bellati
Graduated in Medicine in 1975.
He trained from 1975 to 1982 at the Medical Clinic III of the Milan Polyclinic directed by Prof. Nicola Dioguardi.
From 1982 to 1991 he worked as an assistant and hospital assistant at the Medicine Division A of the Sant'Anna hospital in Como.
From 1991 to 1999 he worked as an assistant at the Crespi Division of the Niguarda Hospital in Milan directed by prof. Gaetano Ideo, contributing to the development of the Liver Transplant Center.
From 1999 to 2019 he was first appointed Director of the Medicine Unit of the Sant'Anna Hospital in Como and then in the same year Chief Emeritus.
In 1980 he obtained the specialty in Liver and metabolic diseases at the Policlinico di Milano.
In 1988 he obtained the specialty in Internal Medicine at the Milan Polyclinic.
From 1999 to 2005 he worked as a contract professor at the School of Specialization in Liver and Metabolic Diseases at the University of Milan.
The activity carried out covered both the internal clinical aspect and that of hepatological scientific research, at a national and international level. In this regard, to date he has carried out 325 scientific publications of both clinical and laboratory research with works published in major national and international journals.
The main topics of expertise are virological ones (therapy of chronic hepatitis B and C, treatment of liver cirrhosis even in advanced stages, and liver transplantation).
Still in the hepatology field, he has participated as a teacher in 80 refresher courses. He has given 152 scientific reports at national and international conferences. He has organized 79 national and international conferences. He has participated in 250 refresher courses and national and international conferences.
In the hepatological field he has collaborated in the drafting and execution of important national and international clinical trials.
He is a member of both the Italian and European Society for the study of liver diseases.
In 2019 he was appointed Chief Emeritus by Dr. Fabio Banfi General Director of ASST Lariana with the following motivation:
